Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 4, 2026
App name: Witness
Developer: Nicolas Dupont ("we," "us")
Contact: legal@witness.camera
The short version
Witness records video and uploads it directly to your own cloud storage (Google Drive or Dropbox). We do not receive, store, or have access to your recordings. We collect no personal data on our servers. We do not sell your data.
1) Information we do not collect
Witness does not collect, store, or process any of the following on company-owned servers:
- Video recordings
- Audio recordings
- Photos or media files
- Location data
- Contact lists
- Personal identifiers
Witness does not sell or share user data with third parties.
2) Recording and storage
When you record video using Witness:
- Video is recorded locally on your device.
- Video clips may be uploaded directly to your connected cloud storage provider (Google Drive or Dropbox).
- Witness does not receive or store copies of these recordings.
All recordings remain under your ownership and are stored only in destinations you control.
3) Cloud provider integration
Witness allows you to connect your own third-party cloud storage account, such as:
- Google Drive
- Dropbox
Uploads occur directly between your device and your selected provider using secure authentication (OAuth). Witness does not access or store your cloud account password.
Use of these services is governed by their respective privacy policies:
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Dropbox Privacy Policy: https://www.dropbox.com/privacy
4) Device permissions
Witness requires access to the following device features:
- Camera — to record video.
- Microphone — to record audio.
- Photos (Optional) — only if you enable saving recordings to your Photos library.
These permissions are used only to provide core app functionality and are never used for advertising or tracking.
5) Analytics and tracking
Witness does not use advertising SDKs and does not track users across apps or websites.
If limited diagnostic information is collected in the future (e.g., crash reports), this policy will be updated accordingly.
6) Data retention and deletion
Witness does not store your recordings, so we cannot delete them for you.
You may delete any uploaded recordings at any time by removing them directly from your Google Drive or Dropbox account.
7) Your choices
- You can deny camera or microphone access, but the app will not be able to record.
- You can disconnect your cloud storage account at any time in the app settings.
- You can delete recordings from your cloud storage at any time.
- You can stop using the App by uninstalling it.
8) Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect data in transit, but no system can be 100% secure. Because we do not store your recordings or personal data on our servers, the security of your recordings depends on your cloud storage provider and your own account security practices.
9) Children
Witness is not intended for use by children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10) Changes
If we update this Privacy Policy, we'll revise the effective date and post the updated version.
